Staff

Click here to sign up as a volunteer staff member to help coordinate and plan the Stroll for Sudan, and we will be in touch with you shortly.

Those who attend meetings (monthly to weekly) and are actively involved in planning the event are considered (volunteer) staff. Each staff member is assigned a specific committee that they are to take part in. Leaders of these committees will be appointed to take charge of leading their subgroup by keeping tabs on their group’s progress and to help their group members with any assignments they may have trouble with. This means that new staff members will get plenty of help, so don’t worry that you won’t know what to do or how to do it! Staff may also be asked to help speak or give a presentation for a church, school, or youth group if they are comfortable with it.

Please visit the About Us page to meet the current staff members.

Qualifications for staff

·         Ages 13-18 for leadership positions

·         Ready to commit time, energy, and effort

·         Responsible and punctual

·         Cooperative

We need dedicated volunteers ages 13-18 to help with the planning and preparation of Stroll for Sudan. If you are under age 13, we ask that you please bring a parent to your first meeting.

If I sign up to volunteer, what is expected of me?

Volunteer staff are expected to attend meetings when possible and call to report if they can’t make it (608-295-1292). Stroll for Sudan meets in the evenings at First United Methodist Church of Beloit (see our Times & Dates page for further info on when and where). Volunteer staff are expected to attend the Stroll and walk unless they have a conflict that day and have notified us. Even if you can’t attend the actual walk-a-thon, help with planning and preparation always is welcome.

What do volunteers do?

We need volunteers to help contact companies for donations, organize the event, help generate press, and educate other students and adults about the genocide and the Stroll for Sudan fundraiser (we may travel to talk with high school student councils and youth groups etc.).

Being an advocate

Remember, becoming a volunteer means that you will become an advocate for Stroll for Sudan as well as the people of Darfur. Being educated on the issues is important. All volunteers will receive a certain amount of "training" at meetings. If you would like to be a "traveling volunteer", (someone who speaks to youth groups, students, congregations, clubs, etc.), you should be able to answer almost any question someone may ask of you about the walk or the genocide. No one is expected to sign up with an A-to-Z knowledge of the conflict. We welcome anyone who wants to make a difference, even if you have no knowledge of Darfur yet. Have no fear, we will educate anyone who is willing to learn.

When and where will these meetings be held?

Meetings will be held at First United Methodist Church of Beloit (511 Public Ave. - directly across from the Beloit Public Library). Meetings generally are held in the evenings with the occasional weekend meeting. Meetings will increase in frequency toward the end of the school year as the event draws nearer. Please visit the Times & Dates page for further info on our next meeting.

Click here to commit to being a volunteer staff to help coordinate the event, and we will be in touch with you shortly.

If you need more info on being a volunteer, please email me at angelicaschwartz@strollforsudan.org . All volunteers are expected to come to the event and walk unless they have conflicts.
